PAWS is the the Pets And Women's Shelters program designed by the American Humane Association.
When domestic violence victims with pets consider fleeing abusive homes and there is no safe place to house their pets, they have little choice but to remain in their homes and subject themselves, their children and their pets to continued violence, or to flee and leave their pets behind. We do not believe a family should have to compromise their safety because of their love for their pets. We happily welcome pets into our shelter. Since becoming part of the PAWS program in August 2009, we have had pets at our shelter nonstop. We have protected families with dogs, cats, and birds.
We are proud to be the first shelter in California to join the PAWS program.
Each year we hold a PAWS Walk to promote this program and raise funds to help cover some of the costs. We are proud that Petco generously supports our walk each year. If you are in Petco, be sure to let them know how much you appreciate their support of our community.
